    Frequently Asked Questions.

    What is Automotive Mechatronics?
Automotive Mechatronics is a life-cycle activity that involves the multidisciplinary integration of automotive mechanical and electronic systems. You will gain skills across automotive-specific mechanics, electronics, communication, advanced control, and modelling.
    What is Machine Shop Engineering?
A machine shop is a facility with equipment and supplies for machining, a process where parts are cut, fabricated, and finished to prepare them for use. Machine shops are used in the creation of new parts, as well as repairs of existing equipment and parts.   Many machine shops have safety protocols to address common safety concerns. Before people can use the equipment, they need to be trained and they are expected to wear safety gear like goggles and face coverings while they work. People must be alert to hazards in the shared space, such as spills or people working with dangerous materials. A safety officer may be charged with inspecting the machine shop periodically to identify and address safety hazards.
    What is Industrial Electricity?
Graduates of the Industrial Electricity program are qualified, through on-the-job and classroom training, to enter the workforce as qualified electricians. They will be able to plan, install, troubleshoot, and repair commercial and residential electrical systems.   Industrial electricity technicians install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment, including those in motors, transformers, wiring, switches, alarms, and programmable logic control systems. Tools used to accomplish this work include voltmeters, ammeters, oscilloscopes, and other technical test equipment.
    What is Arc Welding?
Arc welding is a type of welding process using an electric arc to create heat to melt and join metals.   Arc welding is a fusion welding process used to join metals. An electric arc from an AC or DC power supply creates an intense heat of around 6500°F which melts the metal at the join between two work pieces.   The arc can be either manually or mechanically guided along the line of the join, while the electrode either simply carries the current or conducts the current and melts into the weld pool at the same time to supply filler metal to the join.   Because the metals react chemically to oxygen and nitrogen in the air when heated to high temperatures by the arc, a protective shielding gas or slag is used to minimize the contact of the molten metal with the air. Once cooled, the molten metals solidify to form a metallurgical bond.
    What is Gas Welding?
Gas welding is a metal joining process in which fuel gasses (gasoline) and oxygen are used to weld and cut metals.   Gas welding is the process of using heat generated from burning a fuel gas (like acetylene) to cut and/or join metals together. Gas welding is one of the most impotypes of welding because of its scope of application.   It is one of the oldest forms of heat-based welding and remains the go-to option for many industries.
